TechRepublic Community Members:

It is Monday and we are back with another jam packed community newsletter just for you. Though we are back, we are back on a sad note as the TR community has lost one of its long term members - Scott Ross, known in the TR community as "The Scummy One" and "w2techman."

In honor of all that Scott has contributed to the TR Community we have highlighted some of his past contributions within this newsletter. Our condolences go out to Scott's family and friends.

Question of the Week

Can I use Disk2vhd to upgrade from XP to Windows 7?

Question of the Week I was wondering if Disk2vhd could be used to upgrade a desktop machine. I have a desktop running Windows XP that I need to upgrade to Window 7, and my thinking is that I could use Disk2vhd to create a .vhd file of the existing XP on an external drive. I could then wipe the drive and install Win7 64 bit, and then import the XP vhd as a virtual machine running under Win7. Does this seem logical? Are there any gotchas I should be aware of? -- borysjn

Great Writer

There was once a young man who, in his youth, professed his desire to become a great writer.

When asked to define "great" he said, "I want to write stuff that the whole world will read, stuff that people will react to on a truly emotional level, stuff that will make them scream, cry, howl in pain and anger!"

He now works for Microsoft, writing error messages.
